
In a bid to further strengthen and consolidate citizen’s feedback, the OGP Unit within the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy and the entire Steering Committee members held a one day workshop to validate the commitments and milestones/ activities in the National Action Plan 5. This Validation workshop took place at the NaCCED Conference Room on the 9th February 2024.
Feedback from the technical meetings had been incorporated in the document and the Steering Committee met to validate the document and ensure that the milestones were in line with government priority agenda as well as OGP grand challenges. Mr Kwayava Amara from the Anti- Corruption Commission reiterated that this commitments aims at strengthening domestic implementation of corruption control measures in all Ministries Department and Agencies and Local Councils in Sierra Leone, sustain the gains made in the Commissions Asset disclosure regime and maintain the preventive approach in the fight against corruption.
Mr Emmerson Kamara from the National Youth Commission said that the Commission is pleased to use the OGP platform to support and work with youths in order to enhance their capacity. He said the implementation of this commitment will take a radical departure from previous approaches of dealing with youth related issues and will seek to enhance the agency of youth and place them at the heart of socio-economic and political development in Sierra Leone.
Another key commitment in the NAP v is Open Extractives/ Beneficial Ownership and Systematic Disclosures of Extractives Data which aims to promote open and accountable management of mineral resources through a multi stakeholder approach. The other commitments are Access to Justice, Access to Information and Open Parliament. At the end of the Validation, Rev Diamond Suma representing Westminster Foundation for Democracy informed members that he applied to the Global OGP Steering Committee and he had been shortlisted. It was unanimously agreed that the Steering Committee membership be reviewed as they had also reviewed the terms of reference for members.
Indeed during the validation meeting, these key areas were looked at and adequately addressed by representatives from implementing MDAs and partner CSOs to ensure that it aligned properly with government agenda and OGP grand challenges.
