The National Council for Civic Education and Democracy (NaCCED), with support from Sightsavers Sierra Leone, has successfully concluded a one-day workshop on Disability Inclusion and Safeguarding for Civic Teachers and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in Karene District.
Held at the King Fahad Islamic Junior Secondary School in Kamalo, the workshop brought together participants from the three communities (Rokulan, Makulum, and Kamalo). This vital training, under the “A Better World Citizens Political Participation” (ABW-CPP) Project, equipped attendees with the knowledge to implement disability-inclusive safeguarding effectively in their communities, Strengthen reporting channels and engagement mechanisms, create safer environments that protect the health, wellbeing, and human rights of all, especially persons with disabilities and identify and address barriers to inclusion and safeguarding.
The session was warmly welcomed by participants. Yayah Sesay, a civic teacher from King Fahad Islamic Junior Secondary School, expressed his gratitude: “We are grateful to NaCCED and Sightsavers for this valuable knowledge. This training is so important for us as civic teachers, and we were very pleased to participate.”
The Director of Curriculum Development and Training at NaCCED, Mr. Alphan Aliue Tajawie, emphasized that safeguarding is key to enabling everyone to live free from harm, exploitation, and abuse.
The session also featured a presentation from Mr. Hindolo John Langba of NaCCED on understanding social behavioral change and creating a protective environment.
A key outcome of the workshop was the development of a concrete action plan, outlining detailed activities, responsibilities, and timelines for participants to implement in their communities.
