The CEO of Sightsavers Ireland Ciara Smullen and team have paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy (NaCCED), Mr. Kalilu Totangi, to discuss their partnership with NaCCED over the past two years.
One of the highlights of the partnership between Sightsavers and NaCCED is the Citizenship Participatory Project that seeks to promote the inclusion of children with disability in taking up leadership roles at school level, to build the confidence of these children at an early age.
The Chairman of NaCCED, Kalilu Ibrahim Totangi said that the work NaCCED has embarked on since its creation focuses on lifelong learning that can make permanent changes in the lives of citizens.
He added that due to the remote nature of the communities NaCCED works in, traditional leaders have been part of the process to lay emphasis on the need for inclusion and the right of belonging of children with disability, and that the traditional leaders are gradually embracing the idea.
The CEO of Sightsavers noted that they will also visit the regions, specifically Karene where they will visit some schools to get first hand knowledge about the CPP project being implemented by NaCCED.
